Wind work on oceanic mesoscale eddies in the Northeast Tropical Pacific Ocean

چکیده
The transfer of atmospheric kinetic energy to the ocean is one major concerns in climate research. According previous studies, work wind stress on oceanic mesoscale eddy negative most oceans, referred as “eddy killing”. However, another recent work, finds that an varies with interaction time. To better understand eddies, present study uses satellite remote sensing data and from 2000 2021 investigate effects eddies northeast tropical Pacific (NETP). demonstrates done by this region seasonally there a strong spatiotemporal link between curl. positive (negative) curl entire area cyclonic (negative), vice versa anticyclonic eddy. These results indicate input sensitive curl, do not always hinder area.

On the role of mesoscale eddies for the biological productivity and biogeochemistry in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean off Peru
Mesoscale eddies seem to play an important role for both the hydrography and biogeochemistry of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean (ETSP) off Peru. However, detailed surveys of these eddies are not available, which has so far hampered an in depth understanding of their implications for nutrient distribution and biological productivity. In this study, three eddies along a section at 1645 S have ...
متن کاملOceanic mass transport by mesoscale eddies.
Oceanic transports of heat, salt, fresh water, dissolved CO2, and other tracers regulate global climate change and the distribution of natural marine resources. The time-mean ocean circulation transports fluid as a conveyor belt, but fluid parcels can also be trapped and transported discretely by migrating mesoscale eddies. By combining available satellite altimetry and Argo profiling float dat...
متن کاملMesoscale eddies drive increased silica export in the subtropical Pacific Ocean.
Mesoscale eddies may play a critical role in ocean biogeochemistry by increasing nutrient supply, primary production, and efficiency of the biological pump, that is, the ratio of carbon export to primary production in otherwise nutrient-deficient waters. We examined a diatom bloom within a cold-core cyclonic eddy off Hawaii. Eddy primary production, community biomass, and size composition were ...
متن کاملDeep mesoscale eddies in the Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean
[1] Numerous eddies have been identified in a seven year time series of mooring observations in the Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean. We focus on a series of deep eddies centered at 1200 m depth, and occupying up to 1500 m of the water column. The deep eddies are found to be spatially localized, only ever being observed at one of four mooring sites of the Beaufort Gyre Observing System in the Canada ...
متن کاملUniversal structure of mesoscale eddies in the ocean
[1] Mesoscale eddies dominate oceanic kinetic energy at sub-inertial frequencies. Their three-dimensional structure has, however, remained obscure, hindering better understanding of eddy dynamics. Here by applying the composite analysis of satellite altimetry and Argo float data to the globe, we show that despite remarkable regional differences in amplitude, extent and polarity, etc., mesoscale...
